God always makes a way when there’s no way, even if it’s not our way. Have faith, God will make a way. He never fails!
We had moved cities a couple months ago. My husband had just started working on a new job. The company was amazing, but the pay wasn’t the best.
I had been working for another company for 3 years now. In the beginning, I used to work in their main office. But when we moved, they kept me working for them from home, which was a huge blessing!
We had a 16 month-old son, and I was pregnant with our second one.
I was an administrative assistant. I used to do things like paying bills, responding to emails, answering the phone, purchasing equipment or supplies, etc.
After our second baby was born, I got a phone call. It was my boss. I was in the car with my mom, who’d come from Brazil to visit and help us in the first few months after Daniel’s arrival. It was on speaker and she heard it all.
They had to let me go. I no longer had a job, and while I completely understood their reasons, there was a lot at stake!
We both cried (my mom and I), looking at each other with a burning anguish in our eyes. We were both thinking about what the heck my husband and I would do next. How could we possibly recover from this?
The huge downfall we faced
My salary from that job was pretty good. It was enough to pay for rent and daycare for our oldest son. My husband’s job (at the time) on the other hand, wasn’t even enough to pay for rent!
If I had to work outside the home, we’d need childcare for both our sons. And c’mon, we all know it’s extremely expensive!!! If I found another job, it wouldn’t even pay for childcare expenses. What was the point in even trying to find a job?
How could we live solely on his income, if it didn’t even pay our rent? Let alone all the other expenses.
Here’s a summary of our situation:
- 2 kids
- Unemployed wife
- Husband’s salary wasn’t enough for expenses
- Our lease wouldn’t expire for another 4 months
Moving to a small apartment to lower our expenses wasn’t an option! If we terminated our lease, we would have a giant fee to pay, which we obviously wouldn’t be able to afford. We found ourselves in a situation with no exit door!
There was nothing we could do!!! Nothing. There was no way out.
There was just NO WAY.
It was a sad and scary weekend
I asked my mom to watch the boys for me so I could have some privacy to talk to my husband. We went down to the basement and sat down to talk.
I will never forget his fearful and surprised facial expression. By the tone of my voice, he knew that it was going to be a serious talk. No jokes, no good news, nothing exciting.
Just something scary.
He probably even asked himself if it was a nightmare, on his way downstairs.
I looked at him and thought about the words I was going to use. I told him about the phone call and gave him the scariest news we had ever faced together. He was devastated, as I was when I heard it.
We were two people who loved each other and our kids but had no vision for the next day ahead of us. All of our thoughts disappeared.
My mom left and went back to Brazil.
It was just us, the kids, and this terrifying journey ahead of us.
A hurricane of bad feelings invaded our hearts
We spent the whole weekend looking at each other, not knowing what to do. As much as we tried to disguise our feelings so the kids wouldn’t see it, we couldn’t.
We snapped at Sam so many times during that weekend.
Poor little boy. It was horrible. Nothing was his fault, but we just had no patience to deal with anything.
That night he cried and cried and cried before he was able to fall asleep, something that only happened when he was a newborn.
We felt so bad. I felt like the worst mother on Earth.
There were so many feelings in our hearts that night. Sadness, guilt, shame, uncertainty, fear…
There was also much love and a little bit of faith
God had already done so many things in our lives. So many unexpected things, so many incredible and unbelievable miracles!
How can we ever doubt Him?
How can all those miracles seem so small in a moment of crises?
Why do we close our eyes to what he’s done? Why all we can see in front of us is the problem?
I was so devastated, that I couldn’t even pray. Deep down, I had a little voice that said “God will make a way. He never fails!” But on top of that voice, I had a thousand others that said “there is NO WAY. Nothing is going to happen. What could possibly happen?”
My faith was completely shaken. My husband’s too.
Then, we had a God moment
On Monday, my husband received a phone call! It was only three days after I lost my job.
It was from a company he had applied to work with, back when he applied for a position with his current employer.
They offered him to work as an assistant manager. Whoever called, didn’t even ask him to go in for a second interview. They said that if he accepted it, the position was his! All he had to do was say yes!
The pay and benefits offered were double the amount of his current pay.
There a little detail to the story. The company that called owned the apartment complex we were renting from. When my husband accepted the offer, they transferred him to another community (so we had to move). This means we didn’t terminate our lease, but they terminated it for us!!!
Could God’s hand be any more apparent in this turnaround? It was so specific! It was so clear that He was working through them to bless us.
My husband’s salary plus benefits were just enough to pay for everything that we needed! Everything!
And just like that, He made a way where there was no way!

Even when you think there’s no way. Even when you think that there’s nothing more to the situation you’re in. God will make a way!
He’s powerful, He’s sovereign, He’s good!
Most of the time His plans won’t be the same as yours but don’t be afraid. His plans are far greater and far better than anything you can dream of.
Even if you can’t understand now.
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so my ways are higher than your ways
and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:8-9 NLT
