If you’ve been following along for a while, you know I have two handsome little boys, which means I’ve had to lose some weight after pregnancy two times. Losing the baby weight is so hard, especially when it comes to the last few pounds.
I’ve tried many different tips and diets to accomplish that and I’m gonna share with you what worked for me. This way, you can lose weight after pregnancy too. Daniel just turned 1 year old, and I’m down to the last 6 pounds of 50 I gained when pregnant with him.
You must be asking “But you still have 6 pounds left to lose after a year?”. Well, friend… Yes, I do. That’s because those diets that promise you to lose all the baby weight in a few days or even weeks, might work for now, but in the long run, they’re not helping you change your lifestyle.
They’re not helping you acquire incredible habits and make the best choices. You need a plan that will help you have the body you want for years to come.
Losing the baby weight, and maintaining it
The tips I will list here are tips that I followed and that worked for me. I’m also sharing some of the new things I learned in my current nutrition and fitness journey.
They are not going to make you lose the weight in a few days nor in a few weeks. Instead, they will teach you how to educate yourself so you can make better choices.
This will allow you to achieve your goal of losing the baby weight, as well as maintaining it afterward.
1- Eat well (this will help you lose weight after pregnancy)
Eating well doesn’t mean you only get to eat leaves. It means you can choose to be intentional about everything you eat.
I don’t believe in counting calories and cutting everything you love out of your diet. When you do that, you get frustrated for doing it. At one point, (which is totally predictable) you will throw the towel and give up!
Instead of making an abrupt change, start by making small changes. Substitute some of the foods you’ve been eating for healthier choices. Start with breakfast, then your morning snack, then lunch, and so on.
I’ve also learned that stopping before you feel stuffed works wonders. The first few times can be very hard, but it gets easier and doable. I know that sometimes the food is so good that you don’t want to stop. Or maybe, you’re so hungry that you can’t control it. But, the next few tips will help you be in control.
This is the first step to achieving your main goal: losing the baby weight! You can do this, mama. I’m with you. When you feel discouraged, come here and leave a comment or shoot an email, and I will make sure to give you some major motivation!
2- Eat slow
This is one of the most difficult steps to losing the baby weight for me. I’m usually very very hungry and all I think about when it’s mealtime is eating. I can’t take my time and slow down because I’m just so hungry.
What I’ve found that helps though, is making sure I don’t let myself get to the point of starving.
Making sure I don’t skip any meals or snacks helps to control my appetite at the table. Next step will cover this topic a little more in depth.
When you eat slowly, your body has the time to process the information. It has time to perceive that you’re eating. Your body will also have time to notice when you’re feeling full.
On the other hand, if you eat fast, you’re going to eat a lot more than the amount that would have made you feel full.
3- Don’t skip any meals
Skipping meals will make you feel extremely hungry, and this is not good. When I’m starving, the first thing that comes to mind is the most caloric and greasy meals on Earth. I think about bacon, wings, BBQ ribs with extra sauce.
Don’t you do the same?
Not only that but when you’re excessively hungry, you tend to eat fast.
And by fast, I mean really FAST!
Keeping up with all your meals (including snacks) will allow you to be in control of your hunger. You will also be able to plan what you’re cooking and be intentional about your choices.
4- Be more active ( it will accelerate the process of losing the baby weight)
I don’t know about you, but I sure have a hard time going to the gym and exercising. This is why I chose fun activities that I actually enjoy, to be my workout.
If you like exercising, great! You can even skip to the next step. If you don’t, find something fun to do with your kids, like going to the park and chasing them around. Maybe jogging with the baby in the stroller.
Taking this step will be very important, and will allow you to lose the weight after pregnancy. When you feel unmotivated, think about how you want your body to look, or how you want to feel after this journey.
Lastly, remember that if you really want to get it, you have to work for it! After all, nothing comes for free.
5- Get a health/fitness coach
Getting a coach will help you lose weight on a whole another level. Not only lose weight after pregnancy but to become a healthier person as a whole.
Getting a coach can be a game changer.
I’m a very busy working mom. If you are too, you know what I’m talking about.
And if you are a SAHM, then I know you’re even busier.
Sometimes life will get in the way and make you want to GIVE UP!
That’s where the coach comes in. He keeps you accountable, encourages you when you think of giving up, and celebrates with you each new victory and accomplishment! Your coach guides you through the whole process of weight loss, assisting you with the best food choices and workouts.
You can do this, mama!
What is something that motivates you to lose the weight? Add that thought to the tips above, and you’ll be on your way to getting the results you dream of!
