I honestly thought I was the creator of the Waffle Bar idea. One day I sat down and challenged myself to find a fun, innovative way to entertain friends that would be simple enough to put together. I came up with the Waffle Bar idea. I was blown away that I had come up with such an incredible idea… only to find out that Pinterest was full of posts about Waffle Bars.
But do you know why I decided to still write this post about setting up a Waffle Bar? Because mine is super easy, but it also has simple homemade recipes that make it a thousand times more delicious than just buying canned toppings.
Meet the stars of the Waffle Bar
For this Waffle Bar, I decided to go with the new Eggo Waffles Thick & Fluffy Original. The new Thick & fluffy variety is almost double the height of the regular-sized waffles. And I picked the original flavor because they have a neutral delicious taste that will go well with almost any topping you decide to serve on your Waffle Bar.
The reason why I decided to go with a ready-to-eat frozen type of Waffle is that 1) Eggo Waffles taste amazing! Just as if they were homemade. 2) I wanted time to make homemade toppings without spending the whole day in the kitchen. I went for easy and delicious here. I wanted to keep processes simple, but still, offer my guests the best taste experience possible. And to be honest, I believe I totally accomplished that!!!
[Ask my husband and the 4 double Waffles he ate!]
Now, a Waffle Bar isn’t only made with Waffles. What did I pick for toppings? Well, I decided to make a homemade Whipping Cream and serve fresh fruit to go with it. I also made a little sauce station with a sweet Blackberry Sauce and a Bittersweet Chocolate Sauce.
For Waffle freshness, I brought out toaster to the Waffle Bar so people could heat up their own Waffles and have them fresh n’ hot out of the toaster!
Waffle Bar decor on a budget
I made a super simple, yet beautiful and feminine Waffle Bar decor. If I tell you that I spent less than $15.00 on decor items, you probably won’t believe me. But it’s the absolute truth!
I was going to buy pink and aqua lanterns to hang from the ceiling, but they cost $2 each. I would have to buy at least 4 to fill up the space so it would end up costing $8 for just the lanterns alone.
Instead, I decided to tape on the wall Pink Party Plates and Aqua Lagoon Party Plates. They were super cheap and came with 24 of them. I was able to tape them to the wall and still have enough plates on the table to serve friends. Plus, they gave a nice pop of color to the wall.
To add a little bit of charm to the table, I made a chalkboard sign with a pretty obvious statement: Waffle Bar! {I couldn’t find the same one to link here, so this is a pretty similar one}. I didn’t have to buy chalk because the boys had some so that’s what I used to save even more money with the decor.
On both ends of the table, I added a pink bucket with white + pink carnation faux flower arrangements.
I used aqua napkins I already had at home and did the same thing with the tablecloth. All the serving platters and glasses were also from our home.
How to set up the Waffle Bar
#1. First, make sure you set up a waffle-toasting station. Lay the frozen waffles on a pretty platter and have a toaster ready so people can eat warm waffles toasted at right then and there!
#2. Then, prepare a beautiful station with fresh fruit and homemade whipping cream! This one is perfect for summer because it’s cold and refreshing!
#3. Finally, set up a sauce station! In this particular case, I made homemade blackberry sauce and chocolate sauce. Both can be served hot, which make them perfect for winter.
Now, there are no rules here. You are free to serve the hot sauces during summer and the fresh fruit and whipping cream during winter! {Haha}
Isn’t this the easiest thing in the world?
We had a blast eating from this waffle bar! We also replicated it another day when we had friends over. We served eggs as well and turned it from a Dessert Waffle Bar to a Brunch Waffle Bar! For drinks, we had black coffee available or a delicious homemade cappuccino if anyone was in the mood for it!
