My first son used to eat anything and everything I made him. I totally found myself in a baby-feeding heaven! I couldn’t be any happier with his eating habits as a baby. But when it was time for my second son to start eating solids, things didn’t go the same way.
He was extremely picky and wouldn’t eat any fruits or vegetables unless they were carefully pureed. One of few he would eat was bananas. When he was about 10 months old and started eating food with more texture, this baby pasta recipe (found in the book) was one of the first foods he was actually happy to eat.
Starting our baby on solids can be VERY frustrating, to say the least! I can say this because I went through it. I was just hard! Having to constantly come up with new baby food recipes that were both pleasant to his little taste buds and healthy at the same time, wasn’t an easy job.
Here’s where First Bites comes in! Leigh Ann Chatagnier’s book simplified it all for me!
The Homemade Baby Food Cookbook that made feeding my baby a whole lot easier: First Bites
In the book First Bites, Leigh Ann shares a huge number of nourishing, delicious recipes for babies and toddlers. But the book content doesn’t end there.
She also has several other chapters dedicated to important matters like organic vs. non-organic, proper food storage, dairy guidelines, healthy fats for your baby, probiotics for babies, the basics, etc. These will be incredibly helpful for those times of doubt! [Which type of food do I go with? How do I store this soup? For how many days? What are healthy fats? Does my baby need that?]
The first recipes in the book are focused completely on baby food, the actual first bites (or sips on food) of your baby. It’s all about pureed and mashed food.
While these recipes are very simple to cook or prepare, there’s nothing simple about the flavors that make them. Your baby will be exposed to a whole variety of tastes.
The baby food cookbook has a whole chapter with smoothie recipes, many of which you can very well enjoy with your child! They’re creative in flavor and simple to put together.
My favorite thing about it is that the recipes grow with your child. They go from baby food recipes to toddler food recipes, which is pretty much food that is good for just any human being. I’ve made many of them in my home and we all enjoy them as a family, like the Mini Zucchini Muffins.
This chapter was a big surprise: taking care of you – mamas only
I don’t even need to say that we tend to put everyone else first, do we? It’s just ingrained in our nature, as a mom! Well, the author and chef behind the book, Leigh Ann, is a mom too and she knows that very well.
With this thought in mind, she created a truly special chapter so you can take very good care of yourself! It has over 10 healthy recipes that are easy to whip up and that will give you the energy you need to chase your little one. Because the truth is… we need a whole lot of that!
Where can I find this amazing homemade baby food cookbook?
First Bites is available on Amazon in two different versions:
I have the hardcover version because I’m a paper book lover. There’s something about looking at all those books in my shelf that makes me happy. Maybe the fact that my dad has one library in his home and another in his vacation home helps a little.
Anyway, the two options are there! Just pick YOUR FAVORITE and have fun making amazing baby & toddler food recipes for your little one.
Oh… and don’t forget to take care of yourself with the mama chapter recipes!
