Are you on the fence about meal planning? It seems like a lot of work, and you just don’t know if it will be worth it? Here you can read 7 incredible benefits of meal planning and why it will simplify your family’s life!
You know, this was me a while ago. I was never much of a planning girl. For almost everything in my life, I would usually just go with the flow.
After becoming a mom though, I learned that planning anything will not only lift a weight off my shoulders, but it will allow me to prepare a thing or two in advance so things can go smoother.
With meal planning, it was no different. A couple of months ago, I was still going with the flow and planning things just in my head and figuring out the rest day-by-day.
Trying to figure out what to cook for your day based solely on what you already have at home is super hard. Shopping for food without even knowing what you’ll cook for the week? That’s even worse.
You’ll end up buying ingredients you don’t need and they will eventually go bad. And if you have to buy your groceries on a budget and try to save wherever you can, this system will not work on your favor.
Let’s take a look at the 7 incredible benefits of meal planning!
Meal planning can simplify your family’s life not only when it comes to eating habits but also in many different areas.
#1. Reduced stress
When you have a plan all laid out, you don’t need to be stressing yourself, thinking about what to cook in the last minute.
You don’t have to stress yourself because the meal you wanted to cook won’t be possible since you forgot to defrost the meat.
And you won’t have to stress yourself about going over your food budget because your family had take-out every day of the week. Or because your family is not eating healthy.
Meal planning will solve all of these issues for you, allowing you to be relaxed, knowing everything is on track, everyone is eating healthy, and your budget is being accomplished!
#2. Saving money
First, meal planning will save you money because you won’t have to desperately get take-out for your family almost every day of the week.
You also save money because when you sit back and make a plan, you can focus on frugal recipes that won’t be very spendy! Or even recipes that will stretch your meat (the most expensive ingredient on your grocery list), like a Homemade Beef Chili, for instance!
#3. Simplifying prep
When you have a concrete plan and know what you’ll cook for the week, you can take small steps in advance that will allow you to have part or all of your prep done in advance.
If you know you need chopped veggies to make your dinner recipe and you have a few extra minutes in the morning, you can go ahead and have that prepped in advance.
If you know your meat will need to be marinated one day before, you can do that and have it ready for the next day, when you can just cook it.
#4. Saving time
Having your plan for the whole week allows you to batch prep your meals. You can save time by doing the prep for all of your recipes at once.
Additionally, you won’t have to spend half an hour every day, trying to figure out what to cook for dinner with the ingredients you can find in your pantry and refrigerator.
All because you will have created a plan, shopped the necessary groceries for your plan, and now all you have to do is execute it.
#5. Eating healthy, homemade food
Planning your meals means you can choose exactly what your family will eat. What’s your version of healthy?
That’s what you can provide for those you love. Every. Single. Day.
Ok… Let’s not push it that far. Maybe 6 days/week? 5? I don’t know. You call the shots!
#6. Ability to make sure your meals fit your schedule
When making your meal plan, you can look at your calendar or life planner and see what you have planned for that day. According to your schedule, you can determine how much time you’ll have available to prepare that meal. Or if you’ll have time at all.
In the case you don’t have any time, you can pop something in the crock-pot in the morning or the evening prior (if it’s for lunchtime.)
Either way, you can plan your meals, according to your own scheduled activities.
#7. Cooking different recipes, more variety
You can try different recipes from all around the world. When you sit down to make that plan, search for new ideas that will please your family and yourself.
Look for healthy foods that are tasty and interesting!
