This pasta recipe for babies is super easy & quick to make. Every mama’s dream! It’s a healthier version of the popular Spaghetti Marinara and it’s good for the whole family to enjoy! Yay for easy family weeknight dinners!

Baby Pasta Recipe - A Healthier Version of Spaghetti Marinara

I’m a pasta lover and so is my 18-month-old son. He will trade anything for a bowl of pasta or a piece of bread. I made this Spaghetti Marinara for the whole family last night and it was a complete success. Daniel ate the entire plate and kept asking for more!! And I have to point out that he used to be an extremely picky eater when I published this other Baby Pasta Recipe (Broccoli and Shells Mac N’ Cheese).

I love when I finally figure out what to cook for my family. It almost always never pleases everyone at the same time, but hopefully, it will please at least 80% of the family.

Let me share something super interesting about this baby dish!

Do you know what makes it a Baby-or-Toddler-Friendly Pasta Recipe?

Baby Pasta Recipe - A Healthier Version of Spaghetti Marinara

You’ll see a lot of Marinara Sauces out there that have no sugar in the recipe, however, a good Marinara sauce always has a tiny bit of sugar so it can drive away the heavy acidic taste of the tomatoes. When I make a homemade marinara sauce, I always add sugar. And even when I buy canned tomato sauce (which I also added in this recipe), almost always, I simmer it a little bit with sugar and some spices so it can taste better!

Now, for this recipe, instead of adding sugar, I added carrots to the recipe. They will act to minimize the acidic taste of the tomatoes the same way sugar does. But we will have the 100% natural sugar of the carrots plus all of its nutritive elements.

“Carrots are a good source of several  vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin A (from beta-carotene), biotin, vitamin K (phylloquinone), potassium and vitamin B6.”

As seen on Health Line

With this recipe on the plate, your baby (or the whole family) will not only be eating delicious food but food that truly nourishes the body.

Ready for the recipe?

Oh… Before we jump right in, I just wanna let you know that this recipe contains vegetable slices and pieces. If your baby is not ready for this yet, you can either puree these with the sauce or just dismiss them altogether.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb spaghetti
  • 2 cup broccoli florets
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp basil, dried
  • 1 tsp garlic, minced
  • 2 medium carrots, thinly sliced
  • 3 large tomatoes, peeled and diced
  • 16 oz tomato sauce

Instructions

  1. Boil water. Add 1 tsp olive oil and 1/2 tsp salt.
  2. Add the pasta and the broccoli florets. (If using frozen broccoli florets, add them at the same time of the pasta. If using fresh broccoli florets, let the pasta cook for 5 minutes before adding the broccoli). Let it cook until pasta and broccoli are soft.
  3. While the spaghetti and broccoli cook, peel your tomatoes and dice them. Peel your carrots and slice them really thin.
  4. In a pot, heat 1 tsp olive oil. Add the garlic. Let it cook for about 20 seconds.
  5. Add the carrot slices, the peeled, diced tomatoes, and the tomato sauce.
  6. Season it with dried basil and salt.
  7. Bring to a boil.
  8. Reduce heat to low.
  9. Let it simmer until the carrot slices are soft.
  10. Check the spaghetti and broccoli. It should be ready by now. Drain them.
  11. Once the carrots are soft, it means the sauce is ready too.
  12. Combine the spaghetti and broccoli to the marinara sauce.
  13. Enjoy!!!
