This Air-Fryer Chicken Parmesan With Marinara Sauce is crispy and delicious without all the extra calories of the oil. This is a healthy, no-guilt version of the traditional Chicken Parmesan!
Growing up, Chicken Parmesan was one of mine and my siblings’ favorite recipes! Every time we went out to an Italian restaurant, it was the first things we’d order.
After getting married and having my own kids, I kind of stopped eating it or making it altogether because of the amount of oil that goes in it. But friend, ever since we got our air fryer, I’ve been going crazy with all the fried food!
Do I need to remind you that it doesn’t require oil (for almost every recipe)? This is genius!!!
In case you’re wondering, here’s the air-fryer we used to make this Chicken Parmesan recipe:
The star ingredients in this Air-Fryer Chicken Parmesan with Marinara Sauce
I always like to take traditional recipes and add a little bit of flavor by joining a special spice or changing the cooking method.
In this case, I added fresh tomatoes and oregano to the marinara sauce, almost making it from scratch. I can’t call it that because I still used canned tomato sauce, but by adding the fresh ingredients, it made the marinara sauce much more delightful!
Instead of using plain breadcrumbs or panko breadcrumbs for the breaded chicken, I decided to go with Italian-seasoned breadcrumbs, which carry that special Mediterranean flavor we love so much!

How do you make the breaded chicken in the air fryer?
When we got the air fryer, I was very intimidated by it. Completely scared to use it since I had never made anything in one.
But after the first use, I was sold! It’s much easier to use than a traditional oil fryer. The food tastes just as delicious, and it’s much healthier.
So, here are the steps you’re going to follow to make the breaded chicken in the air fryer:
- Season it with salt and pepper (no need for seasonings since we’re using the Italian breadcrumbs);
- Cover the chicken breast fillets with all-purpose flour;
- Dip the fillets in the egg + milk mixture;
- Finally, cover them with the Italian breadcrumbs + parmesan mixture.
- Then, cook the breaded chicken breasts in the air fryer for 8 minutes (each side.)

Step 1: Combine the salt and black pepper and season the chicken fillets with it.

Step 8: Turn over. Cook for 8 more minutes at 390F.
Step 9: Place the cooked chicken breasts in an iron skillet or baking dish.
Step 10: Pour 1/4 cup tomato sauce on each chicken breast and lay a slice of mozzarella cheese on top.
Step 11: Broil for 3 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with your preferred side (in my case, spaghetti) and enjoy!
