Life is full of obstacles and we’re often found in a corner with nowhere to go, not knowing what to do. But this ends today! I’m sharing with you 4 powerful truths that will help you overcome obstacles in life. Even the ones you think are impossible to overcome.
Life is full of surprises, full of unexpected turns that catch us often unprepared. A job that we lose, an unfortunate mistake we make that affects our relationship with someone we love, a health issue that wipes out our bank account, a son or daughter that makes the wrong choices, attacks that bring fear, anxiety, sadness, depression.
How in this world can we overcome these obstacles that we’re not expecting and that are just way too heavy and burdensome for us to carry on our own?
How can we get back up again when we fall off a horse? Or even worse, when we fall off an enormous cliff that left us damaged, devastated? How can we find our faith over and over again?
Let’s take a look at this short story together and see how these warriors were victorious over a much stronger and scary enemy.
The 4 giants killed by David’s men
In the book of 2 Samuel, the Bible talks about many battles king David and his men had to fight. But the one impressive thing I noticed is that his men killed 4 different giants in 4 different battles. One normal man against one terrifying, horrendous Philistine giant.
→ The first giant had a bronze spearhead that weighed more than seven pounds, and he was also armed with a new sword. He was just about to kill David when Abishai (one of David’s soldiers) came to his rescue and killed the Philistine. (2 Samuel 21:16,17)
→ The second giant was killed by Sibbecai in another battle. (2 Samuel 21:18)
→ Do you remember the most famous giant in the Bible? Goliath? He was the one David killed when he was just a boy. Now, at this time, another one of his soldiers, Elhanan, killed Goliath’s brother (who was also a giant). The third giant of our story. (2 Samuel 21:19)
→ In another battle with the Philistines, they encountered a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot. He was also a descendant of the giants. But when he defied and taunted Israel, he was killed by Jonathan, David’s nephew. (2 Samuel 21:20,21)
Isn’t this impressive? Four normal, average-sized men killed four terrifying giants! Do you know what these mere, humble soldiers all had in common? God’s favor! God was with them and God was exactly what made them overcome all these impossible obstacles they were faced with.
Let’s look at 4 powerful truths that we can learn from this story that will help us overcome any and all obstacles in life.
4 powerful truths that will help you overcome obstacles in life
If you look at this story of the Bible with attention, you will be able to notice a couple interesting facts about God. There are 4 virtues of God that are stamped all over these victories David had with the giants.
Here they are.
1) God is greater than any obstacle that comes at us
As described in the Bible (in 1 Samuel 17:4), these giants were over 9 feet tall. No one could have defeated them by their own human competency. Not even the strongest of man would have been able to defeat these huge giants.
David’s men were able to overcome the giants’ size and strength because God was with them. And God is greater than anything. So don't worry when a mountainous obstacle knocks on your door! Just know that God is greater than whatever it is that's come for you.Click To Tweet
2) God capacitates us
As much as the victories over these battles were only possible by God’s undeniable power, they were also fought by human hands.
David’s men were the ones who physically fought the giants and killed them. This means that we all play an important part in overcoming the obstacles in our life. We will most likely have to physically show up and do whatever we have to do to come out victorious on the other side. But it also means that whatever we’re doing, we’re not doing it with our own power and strength, or wisdom for that matter. We’re doing it with the power, strength, and wisdom given to us by God.
He capacitates us so we can fight our battles and be victorious!
3) He sends unexpected help when we need it
If we go back to the story of how the first giant was killed in 2 Samuel 21:17, you’ll see that the giant himself was about to kill David. David was going to lose when Abishai (one of David’s soldiers) came to his rescue and killed the giant.David was about to be ended, but God sent unexpected help to deliver him from that fight. If you need help in the struggles you're facing. Do not fear, my friend! God will send someone, even if you don't see how or when. They will show up if this is how God plans for you to succeed.Click To Tweet
4) God has proved Himself over and over again
There were four giants in the story. All of them were killed. All of them were exterminated. God proved Himself over and over again. Why do we still fail to believe?
Well… We’re only human and sometimes we will fail to believe. That’s exactly why I’m insisting on this! God has helped David first, defeating Goliath. Then, He helped David’s men kill the other 4 giants. Just believe. He will show up to defeat your biggest fears. He will be with you!
Things to keep in mind as you fight to overcome obstacles in life
I don’t want you to feel confused and leave this article thinking that overcoming obstacles means that you will have things your way. No, this is not how it works.
I know exactly the feeling! Believe me.
We all think that we know what the best outcome for our situation is. We all think that we know the best plans for our life, but that’s not true. So overcoming your challenges doesn’t mean getting your desired outcome! It means that you will be victorious according to the plans that God has for you, which are in fact, the best ones.
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8,9
Sometimes we think that what we’re asking God is exactly what we need, but He won’t give us what we want. He will give us exactly what we need and what is in his higher plans for our lives! And his plans for us are good! He loves us!
